In March 2010 Congregation Beth Shalom consecrated the Garden of Shalom, the newly established Jewish section of Crestlawn Memorial Park. Many families have already purchased burial sites and a number of other families have indicated an interest.
Jewish tradition places a major obligation on the Jewish Community to provide for a Jewish cemetery. Congregation Beth Shalom, keeping this tradition, has fulfilled this obligation. In addition, Jewish tradition places a very high importance on families pre-planning all aspects of end-of-life functions. These include purchase of burial sites and preplanning funeral arrangements. It should not be left to the surviving family during their time of grief and mourning.
Sale of grave sites, for our section, will be handled by Congregation Beth Shalom. Other organizations will be responsible for grave-site sales in their sections.
There are two mortuaries, in the area, that have indicated they can observe Jewish customs and traditions. One is Pierce Brothers Mortuary which is located at Crestlawn. The other is Thomas-Miller Mortuary in Corona. Neither is associated with or endorsed by, Congregation Beth Shalom.
It is recommended that, in addition to purchasing grave-sites in advance of need, funeral arrangements be preplanned and prepaid prior to need. That is the Jewish tradition. The funeral arrangements are made directly with the mortuary. Congregation Beth Shalom does not take part in the step.
