Holidays

Throughout the year CBS observes all major Jewish holidays as a congregation. Every event features delicious food! Please visit our calendar for more information.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

During the High Holy Days, CBS opens its doors to those seeking to return to their Jewish heritage. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services feature previous Bar and Bat Mitzvah students who read from the Torah and participate in leading a prayer. Yom Kippur services are followed by a community Break-the-Fast potluck.

Sukkot

Our Sukkot observance begins with the annual Sukkah Building Party. The dairy potluck Dinner in the Sukkah is always a big hit for young and old alike as members share in the mitzvah of shaking the lulav and etrog.

Shmini Atzeret

Yiskor services are held on Shmini Atzeret.

Simchat Torah

Simchat Torah is a joyous celebration where we dance and sing with Torah. Families are encouraged to participate in this mitzvah.

Chanukah

At our annual Chanukah party members bring their chanukiot for communal lighting. Latkes overflow, youth participate in making holiday crafts, and a good time is had by all as we remember the Maccabees and celebrate their triumph.

TuB’Shevat

TuB’Shevat is celebrated with tree planting and a short service.

Purim

Members attend the Megillah reading for Purim in costume. Crazy hats are provided for those who “forget”. The service is followed by an ice cream social.

Passover

The community seder is held on the second night of Passover. The evening is educational and high spirited. Please check our calendar for yiskor services.

Shavuot

Our confirmants lead the Shavuot service. The service is followed by a dairy luncheon. Please check our calendar for yiskor services.
